How Much Is A Friendship Worth?

The life and business lessons from the Showtime series Billions are endless to me. In an earlier blog post, I went over the rules of business from David Olgivy. Rules you should never break. One of them is to never hire friends or family. This also includes not doing business with friends and family too. Things just get messy.

One of the issues? People using inside knowledge from you to profit for themselves. Have you had a situation similar to what Axelrod finds himself in, people in your inner-circle using you?

Guess what; they aren’t the piece of shit. You are. Confused? You shouldn’t be. You see, you are the one who chose them. You picked them. You drew them in, and you allow them to remain. That is your doing.

“I don’t lie to myself, and I don’t hold onto a loser.”

Do you want to know why you continue to struggle? Why do you continue not to reach the level you know you are capable of? The constant conversation you have in your head with yourself that you are smarter than all these other people who have reached the level of success you KNOW you should be hitting.

I’m going to give you the answer, in the form of a story from my 12-year old self via my grandfather. You see, I was struggling in math and went to my grandfather for help. Amongst his talent in business, he was also a math whiz.

But he wouldn’t help me.

“You want to do better in math? Hang out with the kids who are great at math.” He went on to tell me this was true in anything I wanted. It mattered who I spent time with. Knowledge, integrity, success, etc. It all rubs off. I did just that. Became friends with the math whizzes in the class and the next semester I got an A in math. It worked, and I learned a lot more than math from these friends. It was a pivotal point.

I am sure you are saying to yourself right now. “I already knew that. Everyone knows that. That isn’t new advice.”

I disagree. Simply look around at the people you have surrounded yourself with. You haven’t heeded the advice which is why you continue to fail. Every time I do not heed the advice, I fail.

Failing at something that is easily correctable is a stupid reason to fail. So just stop it already.

Rock on.

P.S. Monday is the deadline, when The Game Plan ($44/month) and SEO Revolution ($100/month) pricing goes up to $97 and $397 respectively.

You know I don’t bullshit, so the price is going up, no excuses.

You can join now before the increase and lock in those lower prices permanently. But you only have about 24 hours left.

How do you know which one to join?

The Game Plan is for the DIY’er on a budget. There’s a bunch of foundational content available immediately, and more is released on a drip monthly. I also host live training periodically.

SEO Revolution makes all the content in The Game Plan, above, available immediately AND many say the highest value in SEO Revolution is the PRIVATE Facebook group we have. This group is seeded with industry veterans, and you’ll be a fly on the wall for all their conversations, from shooting the shit to yes, actually sharing their results and newest discoveries in the SEM battle.

Pick your poison.
